Albert Castillo

Alberto Castillo is President of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Chicago Chapter (SHPE-Chicago), part of a nationwide organization that promotes education and careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. He has been part of the SHPE organization for 20 years and earlier served on the boards of the SHPE-Boston and MIT-SHPE chapters.

Albert is also sole-proprietor of Codigo Systems, an independent consulting service he has operated since 2002, providing custom software design services. Prior to starting his consulting service, Albert worked as a senior consultant at Proxicom Inc, serving as technical lead and senior developer for numerous Fortune 500 clients.
Previously he was as a member of the technical staff at Mitsubishi Electric, conducting advanced research and development of distributed systems for mobile computing. Earlier he worked as an associate scientist at BBN Systems and Technologies. He has also held research intern positions at Intel, IBM, and MIT Media Lab.

Albert is a native of Chicago, son of Mexican immigrants, and is committed to helping others achieve success through higher education.
He is active in local organizations including the MIT Educational Council, which seeks to identify and recruit students to apply to college at MIT. He currently serves on the board of the Latino Technology Alliance and as a director of the Latino Alumni of MIT.
Albert has also served on the associate board of Scholarship Chicago, one of the largest privately-funded non-profits devoted to improving the college graduation rates of underserved Chicago youth. He is a graduate of the Metropolitan Leadership Institute and has been featured in Crains Chicago Business.

Albert holds a B.S. degree in computer science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Master of Engineering degree in computer science from Cornell University. He lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter.
