Latinos in Science and Technology:
Challenge and Opportunity in Illinois

The Latino Technology Alliance commissioned research about the lack of Latinos in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). This site presents the ensuing report, and it offers information about the possibilities for economic development in Illinois, the challenge for the Latino community and the opportunities available if the community is prepared.

The Challenge:
Illinois has a shortage of scientists, engineers, mathematicians, technologists and skilled technicians who can drive high-technology and economic development. In spite of the growth of the Latino population, it is ill equipped for the challenge.

The Opportunity:
Latinos can participate in the new economic development and give Illinois a competitive edge in new global markets where bilingual communication and cultural competence are key advantages.

The Solution:
There are recommendations in this report. Read the report, participate in our alliance and let’s start getting ready to take advantage of the opportunity.
